Thrift guilt

I have a love/hate reaction when I see people around town wearing clothes I've recently donated.  It's happened three times that I can think of, one time I was inadvertently bitchy about it, one time I was pissed because some guy was wearing an old pair of beloved Gap jeans that had started to stretch out immediately after every wash, and another time I was like "wow, that skirt was meant to be on that girl this entire time."  Sometime I want to go to the Social Service League (I donate pretty much everything here) just to see if I can find anything I've relinquished in the past and see how I feel about it now! 

Grandma Gifts

My grandma was pretty chairbound tor the last 15 or so years of her life, but she always wanted to buy us presents regardless, so every time I went down to see her she would hand me a stack of catalogues she'd gotten in the mail and tell me to pick something out.  I hated this task because it always made me feel greedy or something, so I never wanted to pick anything too expensive but at the same time, hey, it was a chance for some new digs.  She ordered me this white shirt from Eddie Bauer before she moved to the nursing home, so maybe 2006 or 2007.  I don't wear it often, because I'm terrified of keeping white things white, but when I do I think about her and her generosity and how much she loved her family.

I just might have to take a sabbatical from my self-imposed shopping ban when September rolls around.  Missoni and Target collaboration! 

I need to be careful...

...or this could become a puppy blog.  Last one for April, I swear.

Hope everyone had a nice Easter!  I drank a lot of champagne and ate a lot of salmon and lemon cake and cherry pie.  

Home is where the furry beings are

All day long I sit at work and just wait to go home to this.

It's even nicer when I get to come home to this.

It's getting harder and harder to not shop, but I'm staying strong!  Spring is pretty difficult, because skirts and dresses are so appealing and I never feel like I really have the right dresses for every occasion.  This one ideal - classy, fun, knee length...but also $350.00.  Maybe someday.  

Real Simple

I think I could make something like this (read: I think my mom could sew me something like this.)  In addition to sewing new clothes, I've decided that trading for clothing is okay, too.  I'm drooling over this dress too, which I think would be a little harder to recreate, but a girl can dream!

Polli Says

Yesterday four other girls and I got together for a clothes swap.  I wish I'd taken a picture of the all the pieces that were up for grabs.  It was a pretty good pile!  We split everything into dresses, skirts, pants, tops, and accessories and went through one pile at a time.  I came away with 2 skirts, 2 dresses, and a new top.  I can't even remember what I took to contribute now (which just goes to show they were probably pieces I should have gotten rid of years ago) but I know that what I got rid of was easily three times what I took home, so I feel good about that.  I'm wearing one of the little dresses at work right now with leggings and my trusty dusty blue Minnetonka mocs and there's a good chance I'll be wearing this exact outfit at least once a week until it gets too hot to have even this much clothing on.  All in all, it was a really nice, restful weekend.
